Fear Is an Invitation

It’s common to frame fear as a signal that there’s something scary to avoid, but consider what long-term effect this framing will have. It means that decade after decade, you’ll keep avoiding what you fear. You’ll leave those aspects of life perpetually unexplored.

What if you do the opposite?

What if you frame fear as an invitation instead?

What you fear is an invitation to grow. If you open and accept that invitation, you get to move through the fear and experience what’s beyond the fear.

And what is beyond the fear? It could be a beautiful relationship. It could be a business that you enjoy running. It could be a life-changing trip. It could be a powerful ability to express yourself. It could be a meaningful contribution. It will surely provide some courage training as well, which gives you access to the invitations of more fears to explore.

While you can frame fear as a reason not to act, that framing is largely obsolete these days. A more empowering framing is to see fear as an invitation to growth.

Fear brings edginess, and edginess brings purpose. A goal behind fear is often more meaningful than a goal without any fear. Fear can greatly amplifying the feeling of purpose within a goal. Facing a fear, building your courage, and finally experiencing what’s beyond the fear can be a very purposeful progression – and immensely rewarding.

Some of the most delicious experiences of life will come to you in wrappers of fear – and rightly so. The invitation of fear calls out these directions as meaningful and purposeful. These invitations lead to juicy and powerful experiences. They’re worth exploring.
